Gilman Grips the Non-Slip Oar Grip™  deliver a significant performance advantage over traditional round grips, which can unintentionally spin in your hand.
We accomplish this by utilizing our proprietary Grip-Right Technology™ with 3 never before seen safety and performance features: The G-Lock™   Lock into safety, comfort and control with the G-Lock. The Palm Drive™  is a large, contoured surface that prevents the Grip from slipping or rotating in your hand and allows for intuitive feathering. The Offset™  provides oarsmen with a more natural rowing position, which helps reduce hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder fatigue.

Why Counterbalance Weights?

Balance is important in life and balance is important in rowing.

Balance can be achieved through your boat’s geometry or by adding counterbalance to the grip of the oar. Our counterbalance grips weigh 2 lbs 10 ounces each side, making Gilman Grips the ideal weight for most boats. If you need a different weight we can assist you in achieving the right balance for your Gilman Grip oar handles.

On the water proper balance equals finesse and accuracy. With balance, every stroke will be stronger and faster. Properly balanced oars means comfortably rowing more miles, every day. You'll feel better, row stronger, and have less fatigue with Gilman Grips.

To achieve balance in your everyday life we recommend spending more glorious days on the river.

Grip-Right Technology™

Grip-Right Technology™

What is Grip-Right Technology?

Grip-Right Technology provides oarsmen with unprecedented Power Transfer, Comfort and Oar Control through 3 proprietary features, The G-Lock, The Palm Drive and The OffSet. Working together these 3 Gilman Grips features create a synergy that locks oarsmen into safety, comfort and control for unmatched oar performance. Gilman Grips are compatible with Sawyer oars, Cataract oars, Carlisle oars, Edge oars and Pro-loks oars.

G-Lock™

G-Lock™

What is the G-Lock?

The G-Lock is on the end of the Grip and consists of 2 engineered comfortable, contoured holds that put the smallest part of the grip between your thumb and index finger.

Why is this important // What’s the benefit to me?

The G-Lock prevents your hand from slipping off the end of the Grip while providing full oar control using just your thumb and index finger. This relaxed grip allows oarsmen to comfortably row more miles with less hand and wrist fatigue in both the G-Lock position (with your thumb on the end of the Grip) or the traditional thumb under position.

Palm Drive™

Palm Drive™

What is The Palm Drive?

The Palm Drive is a large, contoured surface engineered to fit the palm of your hand for the most powerful push-stroke possible.

Why is this important // What's the benefit to me?

The Palm Drive's large surface prevents the Grip from slipping or rotating in your hand, like an oar-right would, however the Palm Drive allows for intuitive feathering, eliminating the need for oar-rights. The Palm Drive’s asymmetrical shape reduced the diameter of the finger side of the oar Grip to the most efficient size for the most powerful pull-stroke ever. We created the most comfortable, ergonomic shape to put the power in the palm of your hand so you can say goodby to oar-rights forever.

Offset™

Offset™

What is The Offset?

The Offset adjusts the angle of your hand to bring your wrist into a more neutral and ergonomic rowing position.

Why is this important // What's the Benefit to me?

The Offset utilizes efficient body mechanics throughout the power portion of every stroke by bringing oarsmans  hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders into a more neutral alignment. The Offset significantly reduces rowing fatigue, allowing fly-fishing guides, whitewater guides, raft guides and oarsmen to spend more glorious days on the river.

Improved Power Transfer

Improved Power Transfer

Why is this important?//What's the benefit to me?

For improved power transfer Gilman Grips reduced the diameter of the finger side of the Grip to the most efficient size for the most powerful pull-stroke ever. The large Palm Drive surface prevents the Grip from slipping or rotating in your hand, like an oar right would, however the Palm Drive allows for intuitive feathering, eliminating the need for oar rights. This safety, performance, comfort feature is unique to the Gilman Grips design and provides oarsmen with more power and control on every stroke. We created the most comfortable, ergonomically efficient shape to put the power right in the palm of your hand.

Sometimes you don’t even realize how uncomfortable or poorly designed a product is until something better comes along. Traditional symmetrical oar grips require a large enough surface to push on yet it has to be small enough to hang on to for a pull stroke. Symmetrical oar grips use the same diameter for both a push and a pull stroke. This makes any symmetrical oar grips much less efficient on both strokes. For example pushing on a larger surface allows you to exert much more force more comfortably than pushing on a small surface. To find the perfect diameter for pulling you just need to look at a pull-up bar, water ski tow handle, gymnastics rings or bike grips. All of these are designed to transfer all of the pulling force through the strongest part of your fingers and all are a much smaller diameter than found in a traditional symmetrical oar grip.

The Safest Oar Grip Ever

The Safest Oar Grip Ever

Gilman Grips set out to design a Grip that would connect oarsmen to the water in a whole new way. By using the latest technology and materials we were able to create the first ever Non-Slip Grip to help keep you safe. Drawing on 30 years of big water kayaking experience we set out to create an oar grip that connected oarsman to the water in the same way a bent shaft kayak paddle dose. The result is a Grip that locks you into safety, comfort and control on every stroke.
